About Sucralose

Sucralose is the only low-calorie sweetener that is made from sugar.

How is Sucralose Produced?

Sucralose is made by exchanging three alcohol groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms. This results in a stable sweetener that tastes like sugar, but with zero calories.

Sucralose is heat stable so it is perfect for cooking and baking.

Is Sucralose Safe?

Sucralose is currently available in more than 30 countries including the United States. The FDA approved it for domestic use in 1998. Over the past 20 years, studies have proven it to be suitable for people of all ages including those with diabetes. In addition, it is safe for women who are pregnant or nursing. Studies have also shown the following:

  • Sucralose is not recognized by the body as a carbohydrate.
  • Sucralose has no short- or long-term effect on the blood glucose or on serum insulin levels.
  • Sucralose is not toxic with its safety having been thoroughly tested under extreme consumption conditions.
  • Sucralose has no known side effects.
